On the stage of the American University of Kuwait, LAPA Academy presents the first local production of the neoclassical ballet SEASONS, an artistic experience that brings together musical depth and movement precision, blending classical ballet foundations with contemporary expressive sensitivity.
The performance will take place on Friday, 30 January at 7:30 PM, and Saturday, 31 January at 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The show runs for approximately 40 minutes, offering an innovative artistic vision that merges neoclassical ballet with contemporary movement.
SEASONS — where Vivaldi’s music meets Zubovic’s artistic signature
The company’s director and choreographer, Dr. Tina Zubovic, drew her vision for the production from Antonio Vivaldi’s renowned symphony “The Four Seasons”, one of the most celebrated works in classical music. She reimagined the piece through a contemporary lens, choreographing each season individually, inspired by its unique rhythms and musical atmospheres, translating the melodies into an expressive physical language.
Dr. Tina described the production as a performance rich in beauty, emotion and symbolic meaning, addressing themes of nature, transformation, renewal, and hope. The work carries a universal human message, affirming the power of art to deeply connect with audiences and reminding us that every ending holds the promise of a new beginning.
She added that SEASONS represents the culmination of LAPA’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for local dancers through presenting a large-scale classical work within a renewed contemporary artistic vision. The production goes beyond form and technique, focusing on artistic depth through a thoughtful balance between classical discipline and contemporary freedom of expression.
Dr. Tina holds a PhD in Education and has brought her international expertise from prestigious European institutions, including the Royal Academy of Dance in London. She previously served
as the principal dancer of the Croatian National Ballet before joining LAPA and became part of the LOYAC Academy of Performing Arts in spring 2022. Since then, she has dedicated her experience to developing ballet and contemporary ballet within LAPA’s artistic programs.
Through the establishment of the LAPA Dance Company, she has trained a large number of dancers in Kuwait according to the Vaganova and Royal Academy of Dance (London) syllabus.
LAPA Dance Company: Promoting culture and nurturing Kuwaiti talent through innovative performances
Established in 2023, the LAPA Dance Company emerged from the efforts of the Dance Department at LOYAC Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA). The company has presented several productions, including The Palestinian Story and Where Words Die.
LOYAC Academy of Performing Arts was founded in 2010 in response to LOYAC’s vision and the growing scope of artistic activity under its umbrella. Its first major theatrical production was Omar Khayyam, followed by a series of highly successful productions such as Al-khaizuran, Min Hawa Al – Andalous, Macbeth, Bain Al Qaf w Al Kaf, Kilmitain – W-Bass, and Our Deal with the Italians.
The academy has also presented notable dance productions, including Aswat in collaboration with the French company Atakavia, Aswat 2, Aswat 3, Kalam AL Ams wa AL Youm , among others. In addition, it has organized numerous musical concerts in collaboration with international ensembles, helping launch many local talents in singing, dance, acting, and directing — many of whom are now active in the creative economy sector.
Presenting the production of “Seasons”at the American University of Kuwait reaffirms LAPA’s role in supporting cultural and artistic movement, nurturing national talent, and enriching the country’s creative landscape through
works that reflect the authenticity and depth of local creativity while remaining open to global cultures.
